ORLANDO, Fla. – East Carolina senior Frida Gustafsson Spang recorded her fourth career individual title carding a final round even-par 72 at the UCF Challenge. The three-day, 54-hole event was being held at the par-72, 6,349-yard Eagle Golf Club.

“I’m extremely proud of Frida for winning her fourth collegiate individual title,” ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. “She played well in really cold and windy conditions all three days. I thought her round of 72 today was just as good as her 68 on Monday. It was good to see how well she played with the lead and finishing it off winning by three strokes.”
Sophomore Lisa Pettersson recorded her fourth top 20 finish of the season claiming a share of 19th with a scored of 223 (7-over). Her final round of 71 (1-under) consisted of three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars.
Freshman Kate Law (229, 13-over) moved up 24 places into a tie for 44th after her final round of 73 (1-over). Starting the day on the par-4 ninth, she pared her first eight holes (15 of 18 in all) while recording bogeys on No. 7 and No. 17, and a birdie on No. 18. Fellow classmate Catherine Ashworth (231, 15-over) finished tied for 53rd with a round of 77, while senior Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (232, 16-over) took a share of 61st with her 5-over 77.
Houston (885, 21-over) made a late push to overtake Tulane (886, 22-over) by a single shot for the team title. Twenty-fifth ranked Missouri (890, 26-over) finished third, followed by No. 39 Texas (891, 27-over) in fourth. East Carolina, who was ranked No. 39 coming into the event, finished in a three-way to for fifth at 892 (28-over) with No. 15 Iowa State and Kentucky.
"I was proud of the team and the way they fought back during the second and third rounds, “Williams said. “We dug ourselves a hole in the first round and didn’t play the way we are capable of. Sunday’s performance was uncharacteristic of what kind of team we have. We battled back the last two rounds and showed what kind of team we are and it was capped of with carding the low round of the day, 293.
“With the fifth place finish, we were able to pick up some quality wins against top 50, Southeastern Conference and Power 5 teams. Overall it was a good week and great comeback by our team the last two rounds.”
ECU (62-11-2) will return to action on Feb. 29 when it travels to Coral Gables, Fla. to participate in the Hurricane Invitational.
